The origins of the Cat Lady slur

Old Maids at a cat's funeral

This social media campaign exposes the origins of demonising women who reject marriage and become self-sufficent, financially in control of their own lives, happily single and in control of their own bodily choices. In 1789, an emerging class of independant women threatened to demand civil rights as the British empire was expanding, so the ruling class had to subdue them. Cats were associated with witches on purpose because they had exisiting links to Satanism in literature and men needed women to increase the population as the empire expanded. Thus, any woman who rejected a man was branded a cat lady and lived in fear of being persecuted as a witch. The aim of the campaign for future advances, is to enlighten women to the fact that men have always needed women more than we need men. They enforce the narrative that women need men through bias that keep women financial dependant.
