Rupi Kaur's instagram account was censored for sharing content abour periods and men (from western countries as well as India, including men Rupi knew personally) commented to say how disgusting she was and that soon we will be able to grow babies in a lab and won't need women anymore. She was sent rape and death threats. Apart from damaging comments stating that women are only tolerated for their ability to grow babies, the misconceptions about periods cause harm because girls are too scared to go to school or work or exercise when menstruating. Many don't enter public spaces for one week every month and the only way to end this discrimination and bias impacting all areas of women and girls' lives is by debunking period myths and talking openly about a natural (and definitely NOT dirty!!) biological process that enables human life.
