Imelda Cortez was imprisoned for suspected homicide following an accidental and unexpected birth on the toilet in her home, due to unplanned pregnancy following repeated rape by her step-father. Feminist groups campaigned to set her free and made progress on reproductive rights, until right-wing parties won seats and created set-backs for feminist organisations.
