Community conversation
In Zimbabwe, this campaign empowered rural women (and some men) to stand up for their rights to education and paid, decent work. There was also a focus on gender-based violence by providing a Human Rights Clinic, where women can seek justice for violence and dicrimination. There was also an open discussion on preventative and responsive measures to gender-based violence. This boosted women’s confidence, create a sense of solidarity and enable women to make more informed decisions to protect and defend themselves. Vulnerable women, identified through the awareness raising campaigns and through outreach by EWF staff, were referred to the Human Rights Clinic, where they were able to access counselling and legal advice from human rights organisations, local organisations and the Police.
