Only 1.5% of global climate-related development funding prioritizes gender equality and only 0.2% of that funding reaches women-led organisations and women's organisations. This is a major problem because it risks repeating the damage done to women and women-led households/projects during western development aid programmes in the 20th century during decolonisation. By funding non-gender-sensitive development projects, the bias against women is increased and gender inequality perpetuated for another generation. This campaign urges climate-related development funding projects to adopt a gender perspective to use this opportunity to address discrimination against vulnerable women and girls at the same time as addressing climate concerns. Women and girls need to be part of the solution rather than burdened by a climate crises and gender discrimination.
