Do it like a woman; Invisible Women

Gender data gap

Caroline Criado Perez OBE is a British feminist author, journalist and activist. Her first national campaign, the Women's Room project, aimed to increase the presence of female experts in the media. More recently, her book Invisible Women exposed the lack of global, historical collection of data from women. This means that heart conditions are diagnosed according to typical male symptoms and are more often missed in women. It means that seatbelts are not effective for female body shapes, nor is protective body-armour for women police officers. This campaign exposed the systemic bias created by failure to account for female concerns. The male default narrative means that women must work harder to adapt to jobs and get around cities designed for men, which often put women in danger in 'gender-neutral' spaces.
