Busting eight myths about sex work ahead of deadline for public comments on decriminalisation bill

Sonke is a South African-based non-profit organisation working throughout Africa, who believe women and men, girls and boys can work together to resist patriarchy, advocate for gender justice and achieve gender transformation. South Africa is in the grips of an unemployment crisis, with 15 million people unemployed. The people who are the worst affected are those who are black, young, female and without a matric — the same demographic that makes up the majority of sex workers. Is South Africa realistically able to support 153,000 women, men and transgender people in finding alternative work that pays the same as sex work?
